About the Role
Overview
This role will oversee the process for supporting the approval of new and existing nurse educators at Practice and Primary Care Network (PCN) level, making a recommendation to the NHSE Quality Team for final approval. The role will also support local training hubs and HEI’s with Student Nursing Associate (SNA) and Pre-Registration Nurse placements, ensuring the practices are adequately prepared for the support required to host students.
The successful applicant will have extensive experience in supporting pre and post registration nursing students and have completed the SSSA course as a minimum. They will be passionate about maintaining high educational quality, supporting educators, and ensuring that primary care remains a high-quality learning environment for multi-professional learners.
They will work closely with stakeholders across SWL ICS, PCNs, Training Hubs, and HEI’s to manage the standardisation of the approval process for nurse educators.
The post-holder will be a core member of the SWL Training Hub, working with a dynamic team of clinicians and managers. They will report to the Education & Training Lead, feed into the Learning Environment Approval and Placements delivery groups, while liaising with local Training Hubs across SWL.
1 Key Responsibilities
Leadership of Nurse Educator Approval Process and Strategic Oversight of SNA and Pre-Registration Nurse Placements:
Implement a robust system in which nurse educators are approved as educators post completion of the SSSA course.
Implement a system in which existing nurse educators are approved as educators. This will include engaging with local Training Hubs, PCN’s and Practice’s to ensure that existing SSSA trained nurses can be identified.
Engage with local Training Hubs, PCNs, nurse forums around the application process of becoming an approved nurse educator.
Support applicants in navigating the approval process.
Oversee and manage approval assessments, ensuring that the process remains standardised and transparent across SWL.
Ensure high-quality training by monitoring and reviewing placements and acting on learner feedback.
Promote primary care as a suitable learning environment for multi-professional learners and advocate for multi-disciplinary learning.
Ensure educator and placement capacity is aligned with workforce demand across SWL.
Work with NHSE and HEIs to share and act on placement quality data, improving the learner experience.
Work alongside SWL TH CIC Education & Training Coordinator to implement a robust data collection system for SNA and Pre-Registration Nurse placements.
Work with local Training Hubs on placing student’s dependant on HEI demand.
Work with Practices and local Training Hubs to ensure appropriate reciprocal placements for SNA’s are made available.
Represent SWL Training Hub at relevant local and regional meetings.
Keep up to date with NHSE, HEI, and regulatory body policies around SSSA training and nurse educator approvals, disseminating relevant updates as appropriate.
Work with education providers to identify and support educators and learners in need.
Manage triggered assessments and respond to concerns regarding poor-quality education and training for both SNA’s and Pre-Registration Nurses.
2. System Connectivity
Identify educational synergies across SWL and work to reduce duplication in educator training.
Support the development of best practices for educators across SWL.
Ensure primary care nurse educators are aware of fellowship and mentoring opportunities, encouraging skills development and knowledge sharing.

NMC Registrant
SSSA nurse educator
Experience of hosting Student Nursing Associates and Pre-registration Nurses
Understanding of the Learning Environment and Educator Approvals
Ability to commit to the role for 12 months

Multiprofessional Educator
PG Cert in Education or working towards this qualification
