Independent prescribing courses 2024/25 -
NHS England WT&E training offer.


SWL Training Hub are pleased to promote the following programmes made available by NHS England WT&E

The ability to independently prescribe is crucial for pharmacists delivering care across the NHS. Working with partners and stakeholders, NHSE and WT&E are developing funded training offers for pharmacists aiming to become independent prescribers.

Applications for training offers for 2024/2025 are now open.

Independent prescribing training places will be available to pharmacists who meet the required eligibility criteria:

 

  1. Community pharmacists (including locum pharmacists); Pharmacists employed in General Practice (who are not eligible for, or enrolled on, the Primary Care Pharmacy Education Programme (PCPEP) and those who are working to provide primary care services (e.g., working in primary care) who are not employed in ARRS roles); and Health and Justice pharmacists.​

  2. Pharmacists enrolled on CPPE’s Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway (PCPEP) and meet the PCPEP criteria to enrol on an Independent Prescribing Course.

  3. Pharmacists working in an NHS Hospital Trust or Mental Health Trust (NHS managed sector); pharmacists working in an integrated care board, ICB (previously CCG pharmacists)Courses are available with start date from September 2024 to March 2025, with several universities offering multiple dates for cohort intakes.

The national NHS England WT&E Independent Prescribing training offer for 2024-25 is now live. Please see the information below and the website here for further details on available courses and intakes.

 

Note that University College London (UCL) independent prescribing course has now closed for Autumn 2024 applications. NHS England WT&E funded places will be available in the Spring 2025 cohort (details will be added later in the year).


London learners may apply to providers outside of the London region, as per the previous year’s offers.


London South Bank University (LSBU) have declined the offer to participate in the 2024/25 NHS England funded IP training offer. Individuals and organisations can continue to choose to use this provider; however, this will not be eligible for NHS England funding.
