About the event

In this course, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of the legal aspects surrounding immunisation, ensuring they are aware of the regulations and responsibilities involved. They will also learn how to accurately document and report all vaccines administered, as well as the critical importance of obtaining consent in relation to immunisation procedures.

Effective communication will be a key focus, with participants gaining skills to engage with patients, parents, carers, and other relevant individuals about immunisation. They will be equipped to address current issues and controversies surrounding vaccinations and understand the broader aims of immunisation.

The course covers the national vaccine policy, schedules, and the strategies for improving vaccine uptake. It will explain how the immune system responds to vaccines, highlighting how immunisation protects both individuals and the wider community. Participants will also be able to identify and describe the main features of vaccine-preventable diseases, as well as the acute and long-term complications that can arise from these illnesses.

The different types of vaccines in use will be discussed, along with an understanding of the contraindications and precautions needed when administering them. Complex vaccine presentations will be covered, along with guidance on managing and reporting any adverse events. Additionally, the importance of maintaining the cold chain for vaccine storage and handling will be explored.

Participants will learn to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, and they will demonstrate the ability to safely and effectively perform basic life support. Finally, the course will teach them how to administer vaccinations with precision and safety, ensuring that they can apply all of these skills in practical, real-world situations.
